📅 **Join our Weekly Event:** Download it right on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/17740/Empires_Mod/ (gameplay trailer in steam link) "Empires is a Unique strategy/first person shooter mix: One commander on each team plays from above, choosing research, placing buildings and giving orders. The rest fill the role of soldiers on the ground, with four distinct classes to choose from and customizable tanks to drive." * **When:** Every Saturday & Sunday * **Time:** 11:00 AM PST / 2:00 PM EST / 20:00 CET * **Server:** Look for the only populated server in the server browser. It's usually the "Echoes of Harmony" server. **Active Window** roughly 7 hours (the max i can put on this site is 4 hours) ✅ Free on Steam | ✅ available for Windows and Linux* you can check how many are online right now here: https://steamdb.info/app/17740/charts/#48h (we usually hit peak players about 3 hours after the posted start time.) ### If you're interested in seeing what games are like, a few people in the community post their games on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheRussianAccentGuy <- he live streams when he's on the server but he modded all the sounds in the game for laughs. https://www.youtube.com/@angrysweetchili7816 https://www.youtube.com/@hmrdev-billnye8166 **Note:** Over half our player base is European, and I think the server is based in Europe as well so feel free to show up if you're European. NA latency is fine. ### Why join us? * **Completely Free:** Available on Steam for free. Doesn't even have micro-transactions or other bs * **Organized Play:** We have a dedicated window every weekend with a consistent player base. (Last event peaked at 65 and averaged 41) ------------ Last time I posted our weekly scheduled community event here it was a success. For the first time in ages we managed to actually max out the server on Sunday (we do sat and sun). We had a peak of 65 players and an average of 41 players over the 7 hours the server was active! (https://steamdb.info/app/17740/charts/#1w) If the server maxes out again this weekend there's also a server with (admittedly limited) bots named "Echoes of RC bots" if you still want to try the game out/wait for a player slot to open. With any luck there might be more people to join you if the server remains full. ------ ### How to play: If you're new there's a basic tutorial you can play by looking for the tutorial option on the main menu if you'd like more detail but here's the quick run-down: * **Like battlefield, but with a commander on each team that commands players like an RTS * **Win condition is to destroy the enemy command vehicle. * **capture refinery points (indicated as $ on the minimap in the corner) to gain resources for your team to make winning easier by having enough money to build tanks and for the commander to research upgrades for the team. Once there, ask the commander to drop one by just typing "ref" in team chat using the "u" key. any class can build structures by using E in a pinch but the engineer class will build structures much quicker using the engineer tool (the prefered way to do it) * **4 classes: -engineer: support -- can repair and build structures as well as heal and revive players and drop ammo boxes. Your engineer tool on weapon slot 4 (looks like a calculator) will be your best friend while using this class. -Rifleman: anti-infantry assault class -Grenadier: anti-vehicle and building assault class -Scout: stealth, sabotage and sniping class (expect it to be more like a scout rifle and not like an AWP to explain it in CS terms) you can equip perks/skills and change your weapon load out and class by standing in a friendly barracks, armory or captured flag and pressing the "b" key to open your kit selection menu (you gain a new skill slot every 10 points you earn in game) there is much more to this game but I don't want to bog you down in the details. If you played Battlefield, Team Fortress and/or Natural Selection before you'll be able to get the gist of it. If you have questions feel free to ask in game or try out the playable tutorial that you can find in the main menu of the game. If you really want to deep dive into the game's mechanics you can read the empires wiki: (https://wiki.empiresmod.com/Main_Page) However you can get by with learning as you go by asking or by playing the tutorial. -------------- *note: Linux desktop works fine (linux mint) but it has a bug where the game crashes if you use your mic. It is also playable on the Steam deck but its better to play it on Proton and you have to bind your keys from scratch on the controls menu if you do decide to use your steam deck.
