Here's a guide on how to play the best Mario Kart in [current year] online There are 2 ways of playing Mario Kart Wii online. It might seem overwhelming but it's actually VERY easy if you avoid Wiimmfi! Wiimmfi and custom track distros. Wiimmfi is a alternative to the original Nintendo online network on the original Wii, and can be used on both Dolphin and original hardware. Custom track distributions (except CTGP) usually use their own network that is not related to Wiimmfi such as RWFC and NewWFC. I will go through the process for each version what you need. Wiimmfi: >Wii: Homebrew installed on your Wii (im not gonna explain how to do that there's a billion guides on Youtube) Disc or wfbs/iso of Mario Kart Wii (can be acquired on internet archive) Patch your Disc or ISO with the Wiimmfi patcher https://wiimmfi.de/patcher/ follow this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SfRqmXDa0A&t=108s >Dolphin: wfbs/iso of MKWII You need a clean nand (Hardware ID) from an actual Wii console. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHjhrpzXb6g Patch your iso https://wiimmfi.de/patcher/iso The first time you boot MKwii you will have to wait a 14 day period until you can access the online features. This is sadly how it works and it's to deter cheating. >Custom Track Distributions: Now there are a couple of these, the most well known are CTGP, Retro Rewind and Deluxe. CTGP is for the funky kong esports fags, this distro also REQUIRES real hardware and uses the Wiimmfi network. It's not very popular anymore and it's mostly tourneys and private lobbies these days, but there are still a couple public rooms every day. The balance is about the same as vanilla only difference are karts now have triple boost. Mario Kart Wii Deluxe is a track distro that features many custom tracks and original tracks, and also have new bikes and karts, and has unique balancing that means you don't have to run Funky Kong Bowser Bike, or Daisy Mach bike to be competitive. It's less popular then Retro Rewind but theres usually at least one room at all hours. When downloading it there's a bunch of different version. They all have different characters and vehicles, but they all work online with each other it's just whatever you find interesting. The blue is the most vanilla experience.
