What is the GameDate textboard?

announcements · Announcement · Mar 2, 2026
The textboard is the support layer built around the game scheduling. The Sessions page handles the scheduling, the textboard handles the community side. Game sessions are zero friction and always will be, but the textboard is a social ecosystem and those get abused when there's no cost to participating. We use a light verification step (email, keypair or Steam/Discord), community self-governance, and a small mod team to enforce the rules. **Bad actors, not banter** Banter, blunt opinions, and sarcasm are fine. Most platforms only catch the obvious trolls and miss the rest. We look for four types: The Troll: Open hostility, spam, targeted harassment. Hostile behavior meant to offend and drive others away. The Cry-Bully: Uses performed outrage and victimhood to weaponize moderation against other users. The Ideological Crusader: Turns every thread into a moral tribunal where disagreement makes you a bad person. The Entryist: Infiltrates community governance and gradually reshapes the space to serve their agenda instead of its original purpose. These bad actors can ruin communities over time if not addressed. **How we moderate** GameDate wants to avoid these two extremes: Tyranny: Over-moderation and tone policing until the space is too sterile for anyone to bother posting. Anarchy: No enforcement, so the most hostile voices set the tone and everyone else leaves. The textboard lands in the middle: verification filters low-effort abuse, mods handle what gets through, and the platform's structure prevents bad actors from capturing the space. We want a place to talk about games and share useful info without abuse and dysfunction.
