[Modding] Balatro
guides · Balatro · Mar 3, 2026
This is a short guide for running modded balatro in 10 minutes.
Most of the available guides show you how to mod balatro manually which is tedious. I'm going to show you the easiest way and a few other things.
This ia a guide for steam version in windows.
1. Go to this site to download balatro mod manager:
https://balatro-mod-manager.dasguney.com/download
2. Install it anywhere except in /C drive. It's a good practice not to install anything on /C drive. If possible, assigne a dedicated drive for gaming.
3. Open the desktop shortcut made by the manager. It will automatically find your steam installation. You just have to okay it. If it asks to install "lovely", do so. It is essential for most of the mods. If it doesn't, the prompt may appear in-game. Otherwise you'll have to install it manually.
4. Now you can search and install most of the mods from the manager's catalogue itself. The most essential is "steamodded". It is a requirement for 99% of mods.
5. The manager automatically install and activate mods after downloading. When you're done, press launch and enjoy the mods.
[Resources]:
1. Modded Balatro wiki: (https://balatromods.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page)
It catalogs almost every mod created for balatro. Here you'll find detalied info on mods, their content, and github links to the mod.
2. Balatro discord: (https://discord.com/invite/5mH3dNhjx2)
There are some mods exclusive to discord. You can find them in #modding.
3. Manual installation:
If a mod is not available in balatro mod manager, you'll have to manually install it. In the mod manager, go to settings tab and click 'Open mods folder' in 'Mods' section. It'll open the directory where all your mods are installed.
Any mod that you want to install can be added here.
Download the zip file of the mod from github, and drop the folder inside zip in this directory. It'll show up in the mod manager. You can enable it directly from manager. Some of these mods might have to be activated from in-game mod menu, if it doesn't work in manager.
4. IMM:
Short for 'ingame mod manager'. A mod manager built inside the game. Download it in balatro mod manager itself. You can find some of the unavailable mods in this manager.
[Mods]:
For those who don't know where to start.
1. Required:
1.1 Steamodded: Injector and mod loader essential for 99% of mods.
1.2 Lovely: Injector for most of the content mods.
2. Recommended QoL:
2.1 Handy: It adds many features like keyboard shortcuts, game speed increase beyond vanilla, animation skip and many more. This mod can work without the aforementioned mods.
2.2 Cartomancer: Needed if you're going for endless runs. It adds card stacking for jokers and similar cards in deck view to reduce clutter and many other things.
2.3 Galdur: Revamps the run startup screen to be less tedious.
2.4 Malverk: A texture pack manager to customize your cards. Base for all mods that change card textures.
2.5 Unblind: Shows blinds for current ante in shop.
2.6 Joker display: Displays essential information like multiplier, activation, hands below the joker without hovering over them. Most of the major content mods also provide support for it.
2.7 Talisman (Optional): Required for some content mods to increase the upper limit of scores.
2.8 Banner: Provides functionality to enable or disable any content in collection for runs.
2.9 PlanetX: Separates modded content in collection neatly in their own pages.
2.10 Batter tags: Utility for tags in endless runs. Better view and stacking feature.
3. Notable content mods:
3.1 Card sleeves: You can select sleeve for your deck on run setup for more variety. Many content mods also add their own sleeves to it.
3.2 Cryptid: Ramps up the game to 11. Talisman is required. Adds a lot of content that make runs truly chaotic. Non-vanilla.
3.3 All in jest: Huge content mod with more than 300 jokers and other content. Stays mostly vanilla.
3.4 Paperback: Another huge content mod with some additional consumables. Fairly vanilla.
3.5 Pokermon: Pokemon in Balatro. Adds more than 400 jokers in pokemon form and its own content around it. Contains a feature to disable vanilla jokers. Has multiple addon mod by others that work seamlessly together.
3.6 More fluff: Another content mod that adds jokers, new consumable types and is compatible with most of content mods.
3.7 Aikoyori's shenanigans: Adds lot of content and it's own unique content that converts balatro into scrabble.
3.8 Unik's mod: Additional content mod with support for some popular mods.
3.9 Partners: Select a partner at run startup which can synergize with some vanilla jokers.
3.10 Shenanigan's decks: Adds around 30 decks and card sleeves for unique runs.
3.11 Mayhem: Another chaotic mod that adds joker fusion and other mechanics. Talisman required. It's in a similar vein to cryptid. Complete pandamonium.
3.12 Aura: Adds animation to vanilla collection. It's still a work in progress but most of the cards are done. Definitely worth checking out.
You can mix and match some of these with each other. My current modlist includes All in jest, Paperback, Unik's mods, Bunco, Finity. They work without any crash.
Be careful with Cryptid, Mayhem and Aikoyori shenanigans. They add lots of content that can lag the game by their own. Don't add more than necessary mods to them.
I've just started modding this game last week. If something's wrong in the guide, feel free to correct me in comments.
Enjoy.
